Message from the Principal

I would like to welcome students, families, and staff to the 2021-2022 school year!

As we emerge from the COVID-19 Pandemic, Zela Davis will focus all of our efforts and resources on Learning Loss Mitigation experienced by the students durning distance learning. The Hawthorne School District and Zela Davis are implementing programs to specifically target Math and English Language Arts.

Zela Davis firmly believes in the highest academic expectations for our students. We are dedicated to ensuring our school provides a welcoming, safe, bully-free environment in which students are actively involved in their academic learning. Zela Davis encourages positive behavior and employs a Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) model to assist students in meeting these high expectations.

Zela Davis has a long history of academic achievement. In 2016, Zela Davis was the proud recipient of the prestigious state designation of "Gold Ribbon School". Our school was also honored to receive the federal designation of "Title I Academic Achievement Award School." Additionally, Zela Davis’ Project Lead The Way (PLTW) STEM Program was recognized as California’s 2017 LAUNCH School of the Year. In 2019 three Zela Davis students were selected to be keynote speakers at the Project Lead The Way conference in Anaheim, CA.

Zela Davis is planning to grow off these achievements for the 2021-2022 school year. Zela Davis continues working with Bud Carson Middle School to build a comprehensive STEM program that spans from Transitional Kindergarten to Eighth Grade. Our goal is to foster a sense of creativity, experimentation, and engineering mindset in every student.

Zela Davis also believes in building strong relationships with parents and community members. Parents are always welcome to visit the classrooms and campus. Additionally, Zela Davis offers a variety of activities specifically designed for parents and guardians.

We look forward to promoting academic success and positive emotional growth for all students in the 2021-2022 school year.
