Welcome to the 2016 -2017 school year.
The staff, in its entirety, is here to assist you with your child’s education. Zela Davis Elementary School embraces the Hawthorne School District’s mission statement: “To maximize each student’s potential to achieve educational excellence”. This statement embodies our commitment to provide the best educational program for our students. We are dedicated to ensuring our school provides a welcoming, safe, bully-free environment in which students are actively involved in academic learning, as well as, positive values and self-discipline. In order to support a safe school environment, we implement a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program.
Parents and community members are valued partners of the Zela Davis team and play an important role in laying the foundation of success as life-long learners for our students. Zela Davis parents are always welcome to visit the classrooms and school. We offer a variety of opportunities for parents to be involved.
In 2016, Zela Davis was the proud recipient of the prestigious state designation of "Gold Ribbon School" and was honored to receive the federal designation of "Title I Academic Achievement Award School." Our Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) program has rapidly expanded with the goal to build excitement and curiosity in every grade level. Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a project-based instructional program, is taught in all grade levels, K-5th. In addition, we offer extracurricular programs, such as fine arts, sports, language arts and math intervention, Google Academy, and several Science and Engineering Academies.
Continuously working together as a team will ensure academic excellence in the 2016-2017 school year.
